Employee Carpool Program

What is an Employee Carpool?
An employee carpool consists of two or more UC Irvine campus employees who
  • Live outside of the UC Irvine Boundary defined by the following roads: University Drive to Culver Drive; Culver Drive to Bonita Canyon Drive; Bonita Canyon Drive to MacArthur Blvd, and MacArthur Blvd to University Drive. (Sec. 904-12)
  • Are actively employed by the campus with employment appointments of 50% or more
  • Travel together the majority of their commute trips to the UC Irvine campus proper (Main UCI Campus and North Campus. University Research Park and University Tower are not considered part of the campus proper.
  • Travel together for at least half of their commute distance to the UC Irvine campus.

Carpooling with Non-UCI Employee
To be eligible for the carpool program and receive incentives for carpooling with a Non-UCI employee, all participants must complete and submit an application to the Sustainable Transportation Program.
    "Drop Off" Carpools
    • Dropped Off - Employees who are dropped off at their campus work-site (which includes University Tower and University Research Park) may receive a drop-off incentive as long as they do not possess a regular parking permit.
    • Dropping Off - A UCI employee who works at the campus and drops off a non-UCI employee at the employee's worksite, or a UCI employee at an off-campus location, may receive a $6.00 per month reduction in their monthly Faculty/Staff Commuter Permit rate.
    • Each member of the carpool must apply to the Sustainable Transportation Program and non-UCI participants must provide employer and work schedule information for verification. Participants must update their commute status annually.

Employee Carpool Permits
All members of the carpool are issued one permit. Carpoolers will receive a permit that allows them to park in their designated lot. The costs is $6 per month per person for carpools of two or three people, but it is free for carpools consisting of four or more people*. Carpoolers also have the option of registering for AR Freedom, which will allow them to park in any AR lot except Lot 80. Carpool permits are only valid in the Crystal Cathedral lot at the UCI Medical Center. Please check here for more information on permit reciprocity. Carpool permits are also valid in all general parking areas. In order to be eligible for the carpool permit, all participants must elect to pay for the permit via payroll deduction.

Employees who qualify as a UCI Employee Carpool but do not qualify to pay via payroll deduction may purchase a CPC (Carpool Commuter) Permit. The Carpool Commuter Permit authorizes parking in one assigned reserved lot ($48/month*) or in all general parking areas.

(* These prices are effective October 1, 2007.)

Carpool Incentives
In addition to the employee carpool permit, carpoolers also receive a ST Permit (2 days of parking/month).

The ST Permit is valid in general or reserved (except lot 80) parking when one box on the permit is dated.

Employees must register at the Parking and Transportation Services Office to receive incentives.
