Bicycle Safety Program
As the number of campus residents continues to grow, the benefits of using alternative methods of transportation increase. Bicycle rules and regulations are in place in order to maintain a safe cycling environment.

Register Your Bicycle
Registering your bike helps theft prevention and recovery. University policy requires that all bicycles be registered and have the registration sticker plainly visible. For more information on how to register your bike, click here or the Parking and Transportation Services office.





  • Use your head! Wear a helmet and you can reduce your risk of injury by 85%.
  • Signal! Use hand signals before turning. Signal as a matter of law, courtesy, and self-protection
  • Ride single-file and in a straight line.
  • Don't weave between cars!
  • Ride only in designated bike lanes.
  • Use your bike, not your board--
  • skateboards are not permitted on campus at any time.
  • Use "bike buttons" at three intersections around campus: California Avenue & Campus Drive; University Drive & Mesa Road; and at University Drive and California Avenue.

 


    UCI Regulations
  • Bicycle riding is prohibited on Ring Mall M-F 7am to 7pm except on weekends and university holidays.
  • Bicycles on campus are subject to the same regulations as motor vehicles.
  • Bicycles are prohibited inside all buildings.
  • Reckless or unsafe speed or stunts are prohibited on campus.
  • Bicycles should be parked in designated bike racks. A parked bicycle may not block or impede vehicles, pedestrians, parking spaces, walkways, etc. and cannot interfere with maintenance, landscaping, handrails, etc.
  • Strict enforcement begins Spring Quarter 2007.
    Bicyclists at UCI are subject to applicable California Vehicle Codes
  • Cyclist must stop at STOP signs.
  • Wearing headphones in both ears while riding a bicycle is prohibited.
  • Bicycles must ride with the flow of traffic.
  • Bicycle riding on a sidewalk or walkway where a parallel street or bike lane exists is prohibited.
  • Cyclists must obey all traffic signs and signals.
  • Headlights and/or reflectors are required at night.

Since the Bike Doctor is no longer in service at UCI, here is a list of bike shops close to campus: Bike shops around Irvine. NOTE: Sorry, Greenhouse Cash cannot be redeemed at these locations.
