Successful and Sustainable Commuting

With the start of a new academic year, UCI Transportation welcomes new and returning faculty, staff, and students to the campus. As student enrollment continues to grow again this fall, please be aware that traffic and parking utilization may increase as well.

To assist our new student population in becoming efficient commuters, UCI Transportation hosted Commuter Success Workshops at various student outreach events, including Student Parent Orientation Program (SPOP) and the Transfer Success Program, providing over 7,000 incoming freshmen, transfer students, and their parents with helpful commute and sustainable transportation tips.

If you are interested in avoiding traffic, please consider commuting sustainably. UCI Transportation offers discounted bus passes, train rebates, and other incentives, for the campus community. Please visit parking.uci.edu/AT/ or email rideshare@uci.edu. We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation in helping maintain a safe and sustainable environment, as well as ensuring a pleasant transition into the new school year.

ROADS Scholarship Awardees

Congratulations to the exemplary UCI students who have been awarded a 2017-2018 ROADS (Reward Opportunity Advancing Distinguished Students) scholarship: Paloma Carrillo-Gallegos, Sabrina Fanning, Joyce Nguy, Adam Roberts, Ani Sarkissian, Mena Soliman, Celine Ton, and Tyler Valdes. These eight undergraduates, who each receive a $1,000 scholarship, were selected for their involvement in sustainable programs and their commitment to protecting and improving our environment, while maintaining a GPA above 3.0.

ROADS Scholarships are supported by the sales of UCI Transportation's ScholarShirts. Support your fellow Anteaters and show off your UCI pride by purchasing one of this year's collectable designs. ScholarShirts come in sizes XS-5XL, and are now available for $10 at our main transportation office at Public Services Building.

uciRIDEtoberfest 2017

Don't miss the fourth annual uciRIDEtoberfest, taking place October 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Aldrich flag poles, where you can learn how to replace a tire, discover new rideshare options, and learn about bike safety. Our certified League of American Bicyclists Instructors will also be on hand to educate you on proper cycling etiquette, using gears efficiently, and how to plan the best routes on campus and beyond. Faculty, staff, and students will also have the opportunity to purchase a used bike, earn bike gear, eat free food, race tricycles and win prize drawings. We look forward to seeing you on October 10 & 11 at uciRIDEtoberfest!

Passport Services at UCI

Tucked away at UCI's North Campus, a nondescript building holds the key to world travel -- a U.S. Passport. Serving the community for over a decade, UCI's Passport Services provides fast, friendly, and confidential service with no appointment necessary. Our team offers photo services, passport forms, and even provides activities for children while they wait. Whether you are applying for a U.S. Passport for the first time or renewing your passport for international travel, our office is ready to assist you. For our hours of operation and a list of documentation required, please visit passport.uci.edu.

Clash of the Cans Supports HHAW

UCI's Clash of Cans food drive is proud to support National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week (HHAW) from November 13-17, by contributing all donated items to UCI's FRESH Basic Needs Hub. Take action and help provide food to the 42% of UC students suffering from food insecurity. Donate nonperishable goods, participate in food preparations, and partake in various UCI hosted events. Since the Clash of the Cans began in 2010, over 18,000 meals have been donated to the UCI community and the Orange County Food Bank. Keep an eye out for more details as our community outreach efforts launch this November.

Summer Maintenance Completed

In preparation for the new school year, UCI Transportation's maintenance crew slurry-sealed over half a million square feet of asphalt in 25 parking lots around campus to improve campus infrastructure. Additionally, signage was replaced, curbs and parking lots were painted, and bikeway and roadway maintenance was expertly performed. The video below highlights our summer maintenance efforts. Thank you for your patience during this annual campus improvement program.

Pump2Plug Vehicle Discounts

By joining Pump2Plug, you will receive up to three years of complimentary Level 1 EV charging and discounted Level 2 EV charging. Save money and green your commute by making the switch from the gas pump to the electric plug today. Visit sites.uci.edu/electricvehicles for more details and a complete list of dealership offers.

Bike Infrastructure Improvements

UCI's bicycle infrastructure has helped solidify the campus as a Gold Level Bike Friendly University, one of only twelve in the United States. This fall, look for more improvements to our infrastructure as we continue to install more secure post and loop bike racks to increase the amount of bicycle parking near the Student Center, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, and other campus locations, bringing the total number to over 6,000 bike parking spaces. In the near future, new signage will be installed to assist cyclists, pedestrians, and cart drivers in safely navigating shared UCI pathways. Remember, skateboards and skate devices are never allowed on the campus core and bicycles must be walked on Ring Mall between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. No matter what mode of transportation you use to get around campus, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and responsibilities as a respectful Anteater.

Mobile Mechanic Coming Soon

UCI Fleet Services will soon be offering a mobile mechanic service to campus departments sometime this fall. If your University fleet vehicle needs a jump start, tire change, battery charge or other repairs, Fleet Services will send a certified auto technician to your location for quick and friendly repair service. Our technicians will also service carts and low-speed vehicles. Stay tuned for more information.
