Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Eight electric vehicle charging stations are available on the UC Irvine main campus. These Level 1 & 2 charging stations were received through grants to foster the adoption and readiness of Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure throughout the United States. The grant is made possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the Transportation Electrification Initiative administered by the Department of Energy. Its objective is to accelerate the development and production of electric vehicles to substantially reduce petroleum consumption, reduce greenhouse gas production, and create jobs.

Electric vehicle charging stations are available in Mesa, Social Science and Student Center parking structures and access cards may be purchased at the Transportation and Distribution Services main office.

Charging Levels

Level 1 and Level 2

Charging Fee

Both Level 1 and Level 2 charges are $2.00 per hour for UCI students, faculty and staff with a UCI-issued ChargePass card. Charges are $2.50 per hour for the general public.

Access Card

UCI students, faculty and staff may purchase an access card for the discounted rate of $4.00 (a $6.00 discount). To purchase, visit the Transportation and Distribution Services office during business hours.

A UCI-purchased access card gives you a discounted hourly rate when charging your vehicle at EV stations on the UCI campus. Once you receive your card and instruction booklet, follow the directions to set up your online account at mychargepoint.net.

If you graduate, retire, or separate from the university your card will continue to work, however, you will not receive the UCI discount. No refunds will be given for access card purchase.

Time Limit

There is a 4-hour time limit for EV charging. UCI's EV charging stations are meant to be "top-off" locations as it is anticipated primary charging will happen at home. The time limit will allow for turnover throughout the day.

Permits

A charging vehicle must display a valid parking permit appropriate to the time of day and location.

Visitor Charging

Visitors with electric vehicles will need to purchase a permit while charging at UCI, up to four hours. You may purchase permits at permit dispensers located at each of the parking structures. click here for a map of dispensers. Please remember, a permit is required at all times while parked on the UCI campus.
